When they released it, a log with spears attached, plummets towards the bear from the tree above. Charles picks up a makeshift spear and begins jabbing at the bear as he backs away. The bear swats his paw at the men several times. Charles jumps down into a hole and the bear sticks his head in and starts growling. Charles gets up and starts running for camp as the bear charges through the woods breaking branches etc. Later, Charles is seen sitting beside a stream attempting to catch some fish, when he notices the bear is watching him. The trainer used verbal commands with food and verbal praise as a reward. The scenes were shot through the fire to make appear that the actors and the bear were closer to the flames than they actually were. The stick was made out of break away balsa wood. The trainer doubled as the actor when Charles is supposedly waving the flaming stick at the bear. A dummy was used for all scenes where the bear is seen picking the man up and tossing him in the air. The bear was actually grabbing the harness and jerking it back and forth. When the bear is seen grabbing the trainer’s leg, a special stunt pad was attached to a harness that was worn on the leg area. The trainer doubled for the actor in all scenes where the bear is seen coming in direct contact with a human. As they retreat they can hear the roar of the bear echoing through the woods. Bob grabs Charles and they run through the woods attempting to put distance between them and the bear. Stephen starts to crawl away and the bear notices this and turns his attention back to his original victim. To distract the bear, Charles grabs a piece of wood from the fire and waves it at the bear which indeed attracts his attention for a short time. The bear grabs Stephen’s leg and starts tossing him from side to side. Later, the bear again catches up with the trio and attacks Stephen, killing him. The shot of the birds crashing into the front of the plane was accomplished through special effects techniques. All of the growling and snarling was inserted during post-production. This was accomplished in short distance takes. For the chase scenes, the trainer places the bear on his mark and cued him with verbal commands. The side of the ravine where the bear worked was built up to support his weight and the log is not a real log but one built to hold the weight of the large animal. With a special camera lens, the ravine is made to look much deeper than it really is. In some segments of the scene, the trainers doubled for the actor. The bear pounces on the log trying to knock him off. The bear is heard roaring behind them and then charges in Charles direction, swiping at the man as he starts across the log. The three men maneuver the log across the ravine and quickly move across. Bob notices a large log to the side and starts pulling it to the edge. The grunting sound turns out to be a bear and the three men start running in the opposite direction until they come to a large gap in the ravine. While making their way through the woods, Stephen hears a grunting sound coming from the brush. Charles, Bob and Stephen, Bob’s assistant, find themselves stranded in the wilderness. While flying to a possible photo shoot location, a large flock of ducks fly into the plane, shattering the propeller and causes the plane to crash. The area was checked and cleared of all debris hazardous to the bear and moss and sawdust were layered on the ground to cushion his footing. Several trainers were strategically positioned around the perimeters where the bear worked. For all chase scenes where the bear is seen breaking branches, twigs, small trees etc., the material used was made out of break-away balsa wood.

In the aftermath of the campaign against the warlords, Two and her chosen disciple Cent continued to defeat monsters across the world and took in orphaned children from the various regions. Two became the ruler of the Land of Sands. Having succeeded, the head of the group, One, divided the land among the sisters. Shocked by the revelation, Two throws away the doll she's holding while the group ruminates over the fact that all of the ornaments they've encountered within the castle are made from humans, most likely, the children that were taken by the Lord of the Land of Sands. Two is fascinated by the dolls until One notices that the dolls are made from human flesh. As the group goes in deeper throughout the castle, they discover a scale model of the world and dolls. Three uses the power of song to manipulate and subjugate the soldiers with strings, leaving them incapacitated. The Intoners intervene and Two summons Egregori to demolish the castle gates.Īfter entering the castle, they enter a group of soldiers, ready to kill them. The guards deny her entrance, telling her that her efforts are useless. Having arrived at their destination, the group encounters a young woman arguing with guards about her child. Concerned, the old lady calls to them but with no avail as they continue their journey. Following their introductions, the group mentions to the old lady that they are heading to the Land of Sands by themselves. The old lady thanks Two for the flowers and the Intoners introduce themselves. Two offers her flowers, prompting One to mention her inappropriateness. Together with the other Intoners, with the exception of Zero, Two sought to bring peace to the land.Īs the Intoners travel towards the Land of Sands with their wagon, they run into an old lady sitting by a tree. In the prequel manga, Drag-On Dragoon Utahime Five, she is one of the protagonists alongside her sisters. Though she is very careful not to hurt anyone, her powers slowly grow beyond her control. Two has incredible strength which grows every day. The Daemons she summons are two ethereal water-based armored giants called Egregori and a giant spider by the name of Raphael. Her disciple is Cent, a dashing young man who truly loves Two with all his heart. She serves as the final boss of branch B. She is the third Intoner and is considered to be the liveliest of the sisters. Two is one of the antagonists of Drakengard 3 who governs the Land of Sands. She is in love with a man and openly displays her affection for him regardless of the settings or situation, much to the annoyance of those around her. Her bright and cheerful personality allows her to befriend anyone, and she sets the tone for the Intoners. The ruler of the Land of Sands and third Intoner sister. After Sahelanthropus is neutralized and transferred to Mother Base, the Third Child infiltrates the place and befriends Eli, giving him a vial containing the English strain of Skull Face's vocal cord parasite. When Eli sneaks into a chopper during Snake's deployment to OKB Zero in Kabul during the events of Episode 31, he catches the attention of the young psychic known as the Third Child, who uses Eli's will to activate Sahelanthropus and attack Snake. However, Eli resists this treatment and rebels against the Mother Base staff, focusing his hostility on their leader Venom Snake, whom he mistakenly believes to be his biological father (unaware of his true nature as Big Boss's body double, as revealed in Episode 46). After the player subdues Eli, he is taken into Mother Base where the Diamond Dogs staff try to re-educate him and integrate him into normal society along with the other child soldiers. The player first encounters Eli in Masa Village after it is taken over by Eli's group in Episode 23. He becomes an active mercenary in the Angola-Zaire border region in Central Africa, where he sets up his own mercenary unit consisting entirely of children, nicknamed the White Mamba ( ホワイトマンバ, Howaito Manba) or "Nyoka ya Mpembe" due to being the only white child soldier in the region. The youth is a 12-year-old child soldier named Eli ( イーライ, Īrai ) who fled from his home in England after learning about his nature as a clone. Liquid Snake's next official appearance is in a prequel. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty įurther information: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Liquid's death leaves Snake in doubt of his own survival, as FOXDIE targets its victims based on specific DNA. Just as he approaches a trapped Snake, Liquid suddenly succumbs to the FOXDIE virus that had been injected into his twin brother. Snake prevails, but Liquid survives again and pursues Snake in a jeep chase that results in a crash outside the island's facility. Snake destroys REX, but falls unconscious in the aftermath, allowing Liquid to take his unconscious brother to the top of the ruined REX and challenge him to a fistfight. Afterward, Liquid manipulates Snake into activating Metal Gear REX by disguising himself as Master Miller. First, Liquid tries to kill Snake by piloting a Hind D and pursuing him across the Communication Towers, but Snake destroys the helicopter with anti-air Stinger missiles. The two brothers battle each other multiple times throughout the story. Snake first meets Liquid after he is taken captive by the enemy and imprisoned in a medical room. In reality, it is Liquid who carries superior genes. Liquid harbors a strong resentment towards his twin brother Solid Snake, as he mistakenly believes that Snake received Big Boss's superior genes, while he was given only the flawed genes. He leads the hostile takeover of Shadow Moses Island to acquire Big Boss's remains and use his genetic information to treat the mutations affecting his subordinates, the Genome Army. Liquid Snake ( Japanese: リキッド・スネーク, Hepburn: Rikiddo Sunēku) was raised in the United Kingdom following his birth, and served as an operative for the British SAS and later became the field commander of FOXHOUND during Metal Gear Solid, leading Revolver Ocelot, Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven, Decoy Octopus and the Genome Soldiers. I've found some interesting and disturbing bugs that I have reported and hope they address. I'm only dealing with a one day shoot but the edited variants might be the issue.Įxports from C1 when you are ready to move out of the session is a bit of mess. Still, it's downright sluggish to move around in your session once you get some real weight in there. The speed is usually reasonably fast but the older processor might be part of it. I'm running an older iMac 27 converted to SSD. Sessions do seem to really slow down on load. It's more convenient than the Aperture Library or C1 Catalog if you need fast access to selected originals or edited files. We're just wrapping up the bulk of our fall run and I've had the chance to really put C1 through its paces. I've been actively converting over to C1 for my volume portrait business. The next step is to then get properly familiar with the search functions, as it is another thing that does not feel quite as friendly as Aperture’s… So now on my computer I have a folder where all the Sessions are stored and at the end of the year this will be imported into the ‘Mega-Catalogue’ as a folder for 2015 work. When importing something this large you better be prepared to leave your computer attached to any necessary external devices, as I was getting an estimated time for completion that is over 20 hours! The total size is about 1.5 Terabytes which is actually not a lot for 7 years of work, because I do tend to ruthlessly throw out stuff I reckon it would have been at least twice that size otherwise. I have started the process of prepping The Old Aperture Library for conversion, and have just imported all of the 2015 work I did before I switched to Capture One. I do find Capture One a little unwieldy/unintuitive at times compared to my experiences with Aperture so this is another reason to keep it simple (don’t get me started on some of odd keyboard shortcuts that keep throwing me!). Mostly I don’t tend to be searching for stuff in the current year so much, so it just feels sensible to keep each job as a Session for now. I find though that any work you have done recently is easier to remember and does not tend to get called upon in quite the same way, also I want to be able to work as fast a possible, so putting all the current year’s work into a single Collection might slow me, as well as the machine, down. The winning model, Fan, from China, Fresh Faces Barcelona competition Of course the advantages of Collections (Libraries in Aperture) is that you can search them and I have found time and time again, in the past, that if a client wanted an image of say ‘ Barcelona’ I had to open the Library for each year and hunt this was both boring and time consuming, so better to just have a everything in the same place. I decided against using a Collection for current work, because though my plan is to mimic my old workflow, which means keeping the current year’s work on the computer, then archiving at year's-end to an external ‘mega-collection,' I actually feel happier and safer treating each new job as a Session. I have said it before, but it’s worth reiterating that I really like what results can be achieved in just Capture One alone and how this also stops me from sometimes overdoing it, when I export out to say, something like Color Efex Pro.īut getting back to the topic of Libraries and their equivalent in Capture One ( Collections) - I have actually found myself eschewing them in favour of Sessions. What brought this about was my looking for some old images for a possible slideshow/exhibition, and when I found them, I got to thinking how they might look if they were reprocessed in Capture One. I imagine this library will keep being used in Aperture until the bitter end then I’ll decide what to do with it.Įverything else though is being switched over, and I am inspired to write this now because I have started the process of preparing my Aperture ‘mega-library’ that contains all past Libraries (by years) for Capture One. These days, I now only have one in-use Aperture Library, dedicated to a particular type of work - that is, shot as JPEGs (I dealt with this issue in my last post). When I started moving most of my workflow to Capture One Pro from Aperture, I assumed I'd use the same file system for storing my files the similarity of the ‘look’ was one of the attributes that appealed to someone who was still in shock at Apple’s announcement to kill off Aperture, and obviously being able to import my old Libraries was a real plus, and helped to convince me that Capture One was the way to go. You might not be as old as me, and can’t remember the wonders of titles like Flashback, but I can assure you, Lunark stands on its own and offers a compelling game right from the moment you’re let loose.Studying space exploration is a side hobby of mine so this extreme-weather resistant origami moon habitat is one of my dream homes. The enemies and puzzles continue to evolve as the game progresses, and the world is filled with so much detail and vibrancy that it never feels dull. It’s controls might take a bit of getting used to, but its art style and story help to keep you engrossed. Regardless of where you are in the world, there’s always something new for you to overcome, and the pace at which it unfolds never overwhelms, yet always pushed you, keeping the challenge to proceed at the forefront of everything you do. Many of the environments are filled with puzzles that require you to move platforms or find alternative routes, along with some other smart mechanical obstructions. Neat mechanics like firing your gun at a missile can see it either fall to the floor to take out other enemies, or launch it back at the turret to cause damage. There’re various threats in Lunark that range from robots with lasers and swords, to missile turrets and mines. The familiarity of jumping and rolling across levels, paired with the use of your weapon starts to become second nature, and when the game opens up along with the bigger story, Lunark is a great piece of art, both in its simplicity and its style. I never felt under-powered in Lunark, but it was still tough at times and these upgrades provide a nice advantage as you move forward. To help Leo get better as the game progresses, you can upgrade your gun to fire more bullets before it overheats, and more hearts can be acquired by finding orange shards to give to a dealer named Huggs. It’s a learning curve I’ve forgotten about in recent years, but it doesn’t take too long to remember that precise movements and actions are favoured over trying to be fast and rush through an area. Stopping after running, especially close to an edge, can result in falling to your death, and turning to fire your gun is a little sluggish, making it difficult to take on more than one enemy at a time. When jumping across multiple platforms, Lunark lacks responsivity to simply undertake the jumps in quick succession. It takes a while to get used to Leo’s movement because of how closely it sticks to the mechanics of the games that inspired it. Lunark’s story keeps you engaged throughout, and its inspirations from science fiction properties like Blade Runner made me fall even more in love with it. A surprising amount of work has been put into making the NPCs interesting, whether you’re chatting with nightclub owners or workers of the building you have allegedly bombed. The animated cutscenes are also phenomenal, harking back to a forgotten style whilst still making it feel fresh in today’s large market of games.Īlong your journey, you’ll meet a range of different characters all trying to survive in its oppressive world. From the neon pinks and blues of the train to the rundown and dilapidated inner cities, there’s always something pretty to look at. Whenever pixel-art plays a part of any game, I’m always drawn in by my admiration for the style, and every single facet of its design is wonderful. He’s just a courier driver with no ambitions of being violent, but he’s pushed to fight back against the system across various locations across the city. The story of Lunark takes place amidst the backdrop of a totalitarian regime, where Leo has been wrongly accused of being a terrorist. There’s a hell of a lot to like about Canari Games’ platformer, even if those tropes of its 90’s-style gameplay trip it up on occasion. Lunark has been heavily influenced by Flashback, as well as other similar types of games such as 1989’s Prince of Persia, but it’s far from a copycat and more like a love letter. It was ahead of its time, fusing stylish cutscenes and environments with pulsing gunplay and puzzles, encompassed in a neo-futuristic setting. When I was barely 10-years old, I became obsessed with Flashback on the Sega Mega Drive. The first day begins with Aya Brea, an N.Y.P.D. The incident starts on December 24 and ends on December 29. Parasite Eve takes place over a six day span in New York City in 1997. The game received two sequels, Parasite Eve II and The 3rd Birthday. The player must upgrade Aya's weapons and hidden mitochondrial powers to save New York City. The player, as Aya Brea, must hunt down the biological entity known as Eve, as well as mutated monsters along the way. The horrifying bond between Aya and Eve will continue until one of them dies. The story follows an intelligent half-white half-Japanese New York City police officer named Aya Brea, and her struggle against an ancient evil called " Eve" threatening humanity, animals, and all life on Earth. It is not necessary to read the novel or watch its film adaptation to comprehend the story of the video game, although it adds backstory to the incident of Eve mentioned in Japan. Sena notes that he had no input on the video game. The game is a detached unauthorized sequel to the novel Parasite Eve which was written by Hideaki Sena. It is not available on the European PlayStation Store, possibly because it was never released in Europe. The game is labelled as a PSOne Classic and was re-released on the North American PlayStation Store on March 15, 2011. It is the first game in the Parasite Eve series. Parasite Eve is an American biological horror themed turn-based action RPG video game developed and published by Squaresoft (currently Square Enix) for the Sony PlayStation in 1998. Even if Stellar Blade comes out later than expected, or gets hit with any sort of delay, fans will certainly get a good game for their time and money if Shift Up's previous track record is anything to go by.PlayStation (available in PlayStation Store for PS3, PSP and Vita) It's clear to see when looking at the games that predate its first console game, Shift Up is a company that values its time to make a good product above everything else. With how gorgeous the game looks, it's rather surprising when one looks at Shift Up's mobile gacha-based history that relied on 2D motion artwork for the majority of its assets. However, what isn't seen as often is the fact that Stellar Blade only has two mobile games behind its studio prior to its development. Luckily for fans who preferred the name "Project Eve," the code word lives on through the game's protagonist keeping the name Eve despite the change. Codenames being used as placeholders is a common practice in the video game industry that applies to consoles as well as games, like the Nintendo 3DS being known as "Project Citra" internally at Nintendo. While this combination looked and sounded interesting, players wouldn't get any new information on the title until almost an exact year later when it returned to the September 2022 State of Play as Stellar Blade, complete with a brand new trailer.Įven though the rather intriguing trailer combined with being left in the dark about Project Eve arguably got players attached to the name, it was made rather clear with the name change that "Project Eve" was never the title of the game, but a codename instead. To viewers, it seemed like Protect Eve was aiming to play like Bayonetta with Resident Evil's zombie and horror elements attached to it, allowing players to dodge and beat up enemies with the agility of a flexible girl in a skin-tight suit. These creatures were shown occupying abandoned spaces and subway stations, and were even shown possessing corpses despite the lingering implication that those bodies had been left alone for decades, if not centuries. This trailer featured gory aliens known as Na:tives that would remain as the title's main enemies even after the game earned its proper title. Beyond that, hardly anything was revealed about the game until "Project Eve" was first shown off during the Playstation Showcase in 2021. Following Shift Up's successful mobile titles, the company announced its first AAA game in April 2019. |
